In the first of a Montgomery Ink spin-off series from NYT Bestselling Author Carrie Ann Ryan, a broken man uncovers the truth of what it means to take a second chance with the most unexpected woman…
Graham Gallagher has seen it all. And when tragedy struck, lost it all. He’s been the backbone of his brothers, the one they all rely on in their lives and business. And when it comes to falling in love and creating a life, he knows what it’s like to have it all and watch it crumble. He’s done with looking for another person to warm his bed, but apparently he didn’t learn his lesson because the new piercer at Montgomery Ink tempts him like no other.
Blake Brennen may have been born a trust fund baby, but she’s created a whole new life for herself in the world of ink, piercings, and freedom. Only the ties she’d thought she’d cut long ago aren’t as severed as she’d believed. When she finds Graham constantly in her path, she knows from first glance that he’s the wrong kind of guy for her. Except that Blake excels at making the wrong choice and Graham might be the ultimate temptation for the bad girl she’d thought long buried.
Beard lovers unite!
Tattooed, pierced and bearded Graham Gallagher is my type of book boyfriend. He’s a little grumpy and gruff but he loves with his whole heart. Our heroine, Blake Brennen, is also tattooed and pierced. Blank is just trying to make things work as someone who has a whole lot on her plate. When these two meet they have an almost immediate dislike of one another. However, with a little forced proximity and some deep dives into their history, Blake and Graham proved that overcoming your past and starting to make a family with someone new can be possible. Their story was so layered and fraught with potential pitfalls that it was hard to not root for them, their love and their family (found and biological).
Carrie Ann Ryan consistently gives readers good, good stuff. She always brings crazy hot sex and characters with family roots to her books, but in Love Restored she also gave us some emotional depth. Both Graham and Blake have had their heart broken and both are scared and grieving at different times and in different ways during this book. They compliment each other wonderfully though and Ryan really drives home the point that relationships are work, they aren’t easy. Blake and Graham are able to make their relationship into something lasting and special after going through hell and back together and separately. Emotional depth…this book certainly had it in spades.
Can we just talk about beards for a moment, please? I love a good beard and I am loving the trend of getting bearded heroes on the covers of books. However, very rarely have I come across a book in which a hero loved his beard so fiercely and the heroine had an equal affinity for the hero’s beard. In case you are wondering, Graham’s beard also took on a center stage role during Graham and Blake’s lovemaking. I’m fanning myself just remembering the scenes. Beard lovers, this book is tailor-made for you. Graham’s beard is HOT!
Emotional depth and beards aside, this book has so many wonderful and creative elements. Put all the good things together about this book and I’m going to give it 4 stellar stars.
Note: My ovaries have exploded after thinking about the sexytime beard scene. I’m still fanning myself over here…
