At eighteen, Kara Duncan had already made her fair share of mistakes, choosing the wrong boy and earning herself a bad reputation in the process. Hurt and humiliated, she'd packed up and moved on, sure that everyone in Bella Warren, Arkansas, would be better off without her. She'd planned never to return, but when crisis strikes, she has nowhere else to turn.
After seven years, Wade Chester thought his feelings for Kara were finally ancient history. Until he sees her again, standing on his front porch just as she'd done a million times before. She needs his help—and his family's crops—if her canning business is going to survive. The rest of his family has let bygones be bygones, so why is it so hard for him to let go of the past?
While Kara claims to be interested only in putting things right, the old heat flaring between them is undeniable. But Wade will need to risk his heart—and the reputation of his farm—to prove that they're meant to be together.
I really enjoyed this book. It is a girl-goes-back-home to make things right story. I also really enjoyed the small town, family setting of this one. The Chester family was Kara’s saving grace when she was a child/teenager. Kara has a long row to hoe in order to fix what she basically blew apart with one strategically displayed bird finger. It was a stupid and immature thing to do and she feels like she really needs to set things right and hopes she can come back to the only place she felt safe, loved and happy. Plus there is Wade, the one guy, the big brother of her best friend that she was in love with…well… for forever. Until they broke up. Yeah that’s quite a story.
I’ll admit that there were times where I felt that Kara’s “issues” slowed down the story and I wanted to shake her. She was so focused on righting the wrongs of the past that she had trouble truly giving herself over to the reality in front of her…a man who “never stopped loving” her. The small town was full of somewhat closed minded jerks who treated Kara as if she was still 18 years old and as if she was just like her mother. I’m not going to go into detail about Kara’s mother and father, you’ll have to read it to learn about that. I loved the family farm aspect, the baked goods and canning. I love to bake… I do. FYI.
Wade was so freaking delicious as he attempted to break down Kara defenses, leaving her notes while she worked, just so she knew he was thinking of her. *Sigh* I love Wade. (WALL SEX!!!!!)
And then, there is shirtless, sweaty Wade after running…
Though his hands remained soft on her cheeks, his kiss did not. He pressed firmly against her and she fell farther and opened her mouth. The sweep of his tongue across hers jolted sparks through her body. Electricity arced. Years of wanting this to happen opened up as fantasies, the late nights, the many daydreams filtered down into stunning, perfect, amazing reality.
Also, friends. Really great friends in this one. Whitney- Kara’s bff and Tasha. Tasha is Patrick’s wife. Patrick is Whitney’s good friend and Whitney introduced Tasha and Patrick to each other in the novella All I Want Is You. Whitney is a hoot and a half. Whitney and Wade also have a brother, Tate, who is a bit of a stick in mud sometimes. But, I do have hope for Tate 😉
I have a lot of hope for this series and book 2 is in the planning stages… yaa! In the meantime, after you’ve read Chester Farms, you can hop on over to her Roughnecks series or her Uninhibited in Apple Trail series. I’ve read both of those and recommend them. And just as an FYI- Ms. Ford is VERY, VERY good with the sexytimes.
